What ETH Gas is
Every Ethereum action consumes Gas (compute), priced in gwei by market dynamics.
- Peak: 30–100+ gwei → $5–30 per transfer.
- Off-peak: 5–15 gwei → $1–5 per transfer.
Four ways to save
1. Go Layer 2
L2s batch execute and post to mainnet — 90%+ cheaper:
- Arbitrum: general-purpose EVM, deepest DeFi.
- Optimism / Base: tight Coinbase ecosystem.
- zkSync / Linea: ZK rollups, future-leaning.
2. Pick the right time
- Weekends are usually cheapest (Asia late night, US morning).
- Tools: ethgasstation.info, Blocknative.
- For big transfers, wait for < 15 gwei.
3. Batch operations
- Merge small actions into one multicall.
- DeFi power users: route via Gnosis Safe.
4. Use your wallet's Slow / Standard / Fast
- Slow confirms in 1–5 minutes; saves 30–50%.
- Reserve Fast for time-critical actions.
Mainnet vs L2
| Case | Pick | |------|------| | Self-custody BTC / ETH receive | Mainnet | | DeFi (Uniswap, Aave) | L2 (Arbitrum / Base) | | Bridging | Mainnet → L2 via official bridge | | Custodian integration | Mainnet |
Monitoring tools
- mempool.space: queue view.
- Etherscan Gas Tracker: live gwei.
- DefiLlama: compare L2 TVL and fees.
With Funshell
We can:
- Settle ETH at the store and broadcast to your chosen L1 / L2 address.
- For size, see the Central OTC desk.
Confirm the chain before bridging — sending ETH to a wrong L2 address may require RPC switching to see the funds.
